Kristina's Story

Physical Therapist

Kristina stands beside a large piece of physical therapy equipment and smilesThe choice to work at Easterseals Massachusetts (ESMA) was a simple one for Kristina, a Physical Therapist in our Rehabilitation Services Department.  Like many new graduates, Kristina had the opportunity during her training to gain experience in a variety of clinical settings so, when it came time to look for her first physical therapy job, it was difficult for Kristina to pinpoint just one area to work in as she enjoyed aspects of all of her clinical placements from school.  Working at ESMA has allowed Kristina to advance her skillset in many different aspects of physical therapy.

“With Easterseals, I have worked in a variety of settings including schools, skilled nursing facilities, home care, and day habilitation programs.  Because of the variety of settings I work in, I feel like I am building my skillset as a physical therapist more so than if I was in one location every day.  I did not expect to love working in schools as much as I do, but now I cannot imagine my life without these little ones who make me smile every day.”

Being encouraged, supported, and empowered by her Clinical Supervisor, Kristina has enjoyed branching out into new opportunities that she may not have previously gravitated towards.

At ESMA, professional consultation with a multi-disciplinary team is easily accessible at any time to help improve clients’ abilities to live, learn, work, and play. Through this multi-disciplinary team approach, Kristina has developed a stronger expertise in areas she was less familiar with such as options for durable medical equipment.

According to Kristina, key factors to her continued professional and personal success at ESMA include “ongoing professional development, access to online resources, flexible scheduling, and being surrounded by amazing people who are always there to help out and genuinely care about my success.”

Working at a mission-driven organization like Easterseals Massachusetts has been fulfilling for Kristina.

“It is extremely important that we help children and adults with disabilities live, learn, work, and play.  We are able to provide opportunities to so many people across the lifespan that may not have the opportunities otherwise whether that is through therapy, assistive technology, etc.”  ESMA provides excellent opportunities for both new graduates and experienced therapists alike who are looking for meaningful work by adhering to its core values of Respect, Commitment, Integrity, and Collaboration."
