2022 Team Hoyt Award Winner: Comcast NBCUniversal

The Team Hoyt Award is a distinguished award presented to individuals and organizations who reflect the courage and determination of the Hoyt family.  The Hoyts are tireless advocates for equal rights for all, and the award reflects the family’s courage and determination to break down barriers facing people with disabilities.  On their 25th running of the Boston Marathon, Dick and Rick Hoyt dedicated their race to Easterseals MA and the award was created in their honor.  That year, they also became the awards’ first recipients.  Since then, every year Easterseals MA honors our partners who share in the Hoyt vision to say “Yes You Can” when barriers are presented.

sWhile everyone is very familiar with the names Comcast NBCUniversal, we would like to highlight just some of the extraordinary measures that set them apart as Easterseals Champions and global leaders.

Diversity, equity and inclusion have always been a priority for them and in 2020 they accelerated the company’s commitment with a $100 million investment to help champion a more connected, equitable, and just world. For them, effecting change starts at home- fostering a culture of inclusion and ensuring that all their employees feel supported, embraced and heard. As a media and technology company, they leverage their unique platforms and build lasting partnerships to shed light on systemic issues, fight inequality and work towards lasting solutions to create positive changes that benefit future generations.

As a national partner of Easterseals, their initiatives and commitment to championing the world of disabilities extends far outside The Commonwealth. In 2011 the Comcast Foundation established the Comcast NBCUniversal Assistive Technology Grant Fund. This fund supports technology programs and services that benefit children and adults, including veterans, living with disabilities. The technologies can vary from braille-equipped handheld computer systems to augmentative communication devices and everything in between.

We are proud to say that Easterseals Massachusetts has shared a personal relationship with Comcast NBCUniversal for over two decades. In that time their commitment and generosity has supported a wide range of Easterseals programs and services with over $350,000 in investment funds covering services ranging from assistive technology, employment for youth, and during Covid 19, support of technology training for people with disabilities suddenly needing remote access to work. Comcast has not stopped at providing financial support. We have also been fortunate to receive volunteer work in the form of a trusted state board member (thank you Becca), countless media mentions, over 1.1 million in media and commercial assets and even our lovely event emcee, Jackie Bruno.
