Award-winning Worcester artist Cesar Rodrigues, known for his amazing abstract art using Assistive Technology, is supporting Easterseals Massachusetts with a raffle and fundraiser to help empower other artists with disabilities to make art. He has generously donated one of his works, Untitled 25, which was created early in his career as an artist. In addition, proceeds from purchases of Limited Edition prints of Untitled 25 will support this endeavor. Specifically, funds raised will assist in building painting machine prototypes for both Cesar and Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children. View the prototype below. The public is invited to attend Cesar's art exhibit to see his works, where attendees may also purchase raffle tickets to win:

Why Cesar is conducting this fundraiser:
In 2019, Easterseals Massachusetts built a prototype machine for Cesar, allowing him to continue painting. A progressive genetic disease was steadily weakening his ability to manipulate paint without assistive technology. Easterseals saw a need—and an opportunity. The original prototype—a combination of custom-made software and robotics—was an early approach to creating machines that allow all artists with limited mobility to make art.
The original machine was built in partnership between Cesar and specialists at Easterseals’ Assistive Technology Department. However, software and robotics technology have progressed long since that prototype. Now it’s time to take what Cesar and Easterseals learned together and make it more broadly accessible.
Artwork sales for Untitled 25 will support the Easterseals Massachusetts Assistive Technology Maker Lab in developing the software and robotics to be used by painters with limited mobility. Two identical new prototypes will be built, one to be used and tested by Cesar himself, and the other for the Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC).
The youth with multiple disabilities residing there will have a new opportunity, and capacity to make art. Their experience and feedback on the new prototype will be refined by Cesar’s long experience with this technology, as an artist, and as a graduate of the PRHC.
Together, they can make art and help engineers advance technology to support creativity in populations with disabilities.
Purchasing raffle tickets or Limited Edition print supports:
- Research and development of advanced assistive technology for painting
- Collaborating with engineers on the requisite software and robotics
- New opportunities for artmaking and creative expression for children at the PRHC
- And the continuation of a great artistic career.
