Vocational Assessments

Easterseals Massachusetts (ESMA) offers individualized and comprehensive vocational assessments conducted by a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor.

Benefits of a Vocational Assessment

  • Provides a guideline for students, parents, and educators to use when planning for appropriate and realistic employment goals
  • Relates to a student’s IEP and TPF and formulates  short-term and long-term career options for students as they  transition into the community, post-secondary living, employment, and independent living
  • Offers thorough documentation for IEP and Transition TEAMs to assess when creating appropriate measurable post-secondary vision and goals

Outcomes of a Vocational Assessment

  • Diagnostic interviews with students assess transferable skills and potential barriers to employment
  • Realistic vocational and academic recommendations are based on a series of assessment tools, including aptitude testing, skills assessments, interests inventories, situational assessments, and computer assessments
  • Objective behavioral observations are based on job readiness/workplace behaviors
  • Supporting documentation, including IEPs, psycho-educational evaluations, and other clinical assessments, is integrated into recommendations for vocational goals
  • Employment recommendations take into account transferable skills and needed accommodations; labor market analysis prioritizes feasible career options
  • Appropriate vocational development activities and transition service recommendations are identified for the student
