BILL S.1629 : ACCESSIBLE MA ACT

Bill S.1629 will require that adaptability features be added, when reasonable,to any building being gut-rehabilitated into multi-unit housing and would give the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board(MAAB) purview over workplaces, enforcing accessibility in new or extensively renovated workplaces will achieve crucial alignment with the ADA.

AN ACT REMOVING BARRIERS TO WORK THAT DISCRIMINATE AGAINST PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES, MOBILITY IMPAIRMENTS, AND SENIORS

The ACCESSIBLE MA Act would allow the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board(MAAB) to meet the promise of the ADA- enforce accessibility in new or extensively renovated workplaces, and guide developers and architects on innovative ways to provide access.

This bill will require that adaptability features be added, when reasonable, to any building being gut-rehabilitated into multi-unit housing. Adaptability features are inexpensive and easy to install during construction or reconstruction, but almost impossible to add later.
