On Friday, July 19, U.S. Representative Harley Rouda held a town hall meeting at Easterseals Southern California's (ESSC’s) Irvine Headquarters. The first term congressman was elected in 2017 and represents the 48th congressional district, which includes Newport Beach, Huntington Beach and Costa Mesa.
The congressman was very appreciative about the work being done by Easterseals associates. “What you guys are doing on a daily basis is changing people’s lives,” he shared. “Every single interaction you have with an individual has the ability to change their life.”
Rep. Rouda answered questions from the audience and shared his experience on passing bipartisan legislation, including co-sponsoring several healthcare-related bills. He’s also co-signed a bill to ensure funding of the Individual with Disabilities Education (IDEA) Act, which calls on the federal government to match 40 percent of educational funding for individuals with disabilities.
After the town hall, Rep. Rouda was given a tour of the Autism Therapy and Disability Services Center, including our legacy wall of historic Easterseals photos and articles.
The visit by a Representative from the United States Congress shows how highly regarded Easterseals is in the community, and how appreciative our civic leaders are of the work we do every day.
