Maureen may be a bit shy, but she is not at all hesitant in her passion for Easter Seals. As a board member for the self-advocacy group for Adult Day Services clients in her region, she works to ensure that the presentations are put together well and the meetings run smoothly. Adult Day Services Program Director, Angelica Real says, “Maureen’s kindness and respect for others has earned her the respect of both the staff and her peers at Easter Seals.”
Maureen enjoys volunteering in the community at the veterans’ hospital, at a community center assisting senior citizens, and with an organization that helps provide meals for people who are elderly or ill. Since becoming more comfortable with public transportation, Maureen has started to move further out into the community and towards increased independence. She says that she is “excited to be a part of these big events.”
Mauricio is described by everyone at Easter Seals as outgoing and friendly. Through the Adult Day Service he’s increased his independence through volunteer work at the veteran’s hospital, and with a senior citizen organization. He also has been building his computer skills and learning to grow vegetables and herbs to support his passion for cooking. Mauricio stays on top of current events and enjoys sharing the biggest news stories of the day.
His program director, Angelica Real said that "he makes sure everyone knows what is going on from international sporting events to the Long Beach Grand Prix.” Mauricio has made a presentation to Easterseals Southern California’s board of directors and was included in the filming of a national Easter Seals video. He says he is “happy to be helping Easter Seals with these projects.”
