Tim Starts His Own Flower Arrangement and Delivery Business

Tim Lulejian Story Image

Easter Seals works to help the people we support own and operate their own "micro" businesses.  Easter Seals WorkFirst assisted Adult Day Services participant Tim Lulejian with starting his own business in 2007.  With the help of a Vocational Specialist Tim now has a thriving flower delivery business.

Although they have made it look easy, the new business is the cumulative result of a team-centered discovery process that requires hard work, commitment and creativity.

The process of discovery uncovered that Tim had many interests, including a passion for flowers.  Tim had once worked in a flower shop and even took a class on how to care for and arrange flowers.  Tim really wanted to have a flower shop of his own and even had a name for his shop picked out “Papa Lu’s flowers” in memory of his father who had passed away.  It was decided that Tim would start his own flower business.

When Tim and his Easter Seals coach formed a business plan things started to happen.  Tim was able to get a license for his flower-delivery business serving South Bay beach cities.  He identified his target customers to include small businesses and eateries.  He created a flyer, chose his inventory and developed a “price-point for purchase” in order to make a profit.  Once that was done Tim and his coach hit the streets to sell flowers.

It didn’t take long for Tim to get his first regular customer.  Hermosa Lock and Key wanted regular flowers for the counter.  Next, Bow Wow Boutique ordered flowers for its front customer-service area.  Each new customer confirmed that Tim was in the flower business!  Today “Papa Lu's Flowers” has 15 accounts with weekly deliveries, and most Wednesdays Tim has about 20 customers with extra retail traffic on the weekends.

Tim's goals are to launch a website and buy a used delivery truck to expand his reach.  He wants to see his business grow.

"Thanks to Easter Seals my dream came true.  I like going to work everyday because it makes me happy - when the customers are happy, I'm happy."
