Now a college graduate in Fullerton, Easter Seals Individualized Service provided Lora with a support person to help navigate her college campus, classes and coursework.

Lora grew up receiving support from Easter Seals After-School Service, which she says gave her a place to go where she felt accepted, and it helped her improve her socials skills as well as become more independent.

Lora's success is quite an achievement given that doctors told her parents she would have limited mental capacity and would never be independent.

Lora was born with a rare brain abnormality called schizencephaly.  Despite the doctors’ prognosis, Lora’s parents looked at their six-month-old daughter and decided that the doctors did not know everything.

The family pursued early intervention and full inclusion in public school.  Lora had five surgeries by the time she was 10, and through it all remained a happy, upbeat kid.

Today, acting as an Easter Seals Ambassador gives Lora the opportunity to gain public speaking skills that will serve her well in the future.  After all, her dream is to be of being a voice-over actor.
