COVID-19 Strategy Update (5/15/2020)

A message from our CEO, Wendy Sullivan

Team,

The COVID-19 task force continues to strategize how and when we might reopen our site-based program locations. Our locations will only open when appropriate and with the health and safety of our staff, program participants, and the community in mind. Each location will have specific guidelines, and your Program Director will notify you of the strategies when finalized.

Our Community Living program continues to operate under our current policies, including staying at home statewide as we evaluate local communities and CDC recommendations. We are also working to develop the protocols needed to resume our community-based programs. Each area will have specific strategies to meet the needs of those we support. Our phased approach to this will take time, and not all locations or community-based programs will open or restart on the same day. If you are currently redeployed, you may continue to be needed in that program area. Your Vice President or Chief Program Officer will determine when it is appropriate for you to return to your typical responsibilities. We will keep you updated on any new developments and our strategy moving forward.

We continue to collect stories from staff, and we have received countless extraordinary mission moments from across the organization, these stories highlight your innovation and dedication. Thank you for sharing them and for continuing to provide outstanding support to those who count on us every day.

We hope these stories bring a smile to your face and that you keep sharing your beautiful moments with us. These mission moments make all the difference when we are sharing our work with legislators, donors, parents, and all of our stakeholders. Send your story submission and pictures to laura.checkett@esmw.org

The following is a message I received this week from a mother whose son participates in our Community Living program.

“Your team has done a fantastic job! [The COVID-19 crisis] was a major undertaking for sure. I feel so proud of the organization and especially the direct care workers. They go above and beyond the call of duty. I now feel so secure that when anything happens to my husband and me that our dear son will be in safe hands.”

This message is just one example of the notes I receive daily from the people who turn to us for support, education, and advocacy resources. Your dedication to those who access our life-changing services is a testament to our collective work, and I am beyond grateful for your partnership.

Finally, please continue to check our COVID-19 webpage for additional resources, including staff FAQs and communications: https://tinyurl.com/sh8wpjt.

Take care of yourself, those you love, and those who turn to you for support. Together, we will continue to rise above these challenges.

Sincerely,

Wendy Sullivan
