Connect & Protect (8/18/21)

Dear Team,

Happy Wednesday, and welcome to the second edition of Connect & Protect.

COVID-19 numbers continue to rise throughout the Midwest, Great Plains, and South, and our organization has felt these effects. As of today, we have nine employees who are COVID-19 positive but no cases in those we support. Thankfully, nearly 90% of the people we support in our Community Living programs are fully vaccinated.

With nearly 60% of the U.S. fully vaccinated, it was announced today that most Americans will need to get booster shots in the coming months. The Government announcement recommended booster shots eight months after receiving a second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine to ensure lasting protection against the coronavirus as the delta variant spreads across the country. In the announcement, they shared that U.S. agencies are preparing to offer booster shots to all eligible Americans beginning the week of September 20.

We will keep you posted as new information becomes available.

This Week's Deep Dive Readings:

Why I Got Vaccinated: Dorothy Tobar, Community Living Specialist

“I chose to get vaccinated for my safety and my family and friends. I am the first in my family to do it. I am trying to encourage my family to get vaccinated as well because I want us all to be safe and live a long time. While I hate wearing the mask, they are for our safety, so coworkers, please get vaccinated for you and your family and friends.”

If you need access to the vaccine, text your zip code to 438829 or email vaccine@esmw.org for assistance. We want you to get vaccinated and if we can help you in the process, please let us know.

As always, thank you for all you do at Easterseals.

Sincerely,

Wendy Sullivan
