The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) Early Learning Division of Washington, DC,  held an annual conference on Friday, May 20, where Dinahetta Lewis, Center Director, Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Child Development Center of Easter Seals Serving DC | MD | VA was selected by OSSE to join a panel focusing on the Top 10 Mistakes Child Care Centers Make when Providing Inclusive Environments and Service Integration to an audience of directors, administrators and teachers from across the DC region.

The Child Development Center was also recognized for their high scores in the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), conducted by OSSE. Two classrooms [an infant and toddler classroom] at the center will receive an award from OSSE for their high CLASS scores. A group of 133 Toddler Programs across the District were observed using the Infant/Toddler CLASS tool. Out of the 133 programs, only five toddler classrooms scored high on the CLASS assessment. Also, 10 mixed-age group classrooms in the District were assessed using the Infant/Toddler CLASS assessment, and out of the 10 schools, only two mixed-age group classrooms scored high on the CLASS assessment.

Both classroom at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Center will receive a certificate and letter from OSSE’s Assistant Superintendent of Education, Elizabeth Groginsky.

The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Child Development Center in Washington, DC has been serving families in the community since 1959, and has been recognized by OSSE on several occasions for exceptional service and education.
