PUMPKINS, A MAGIC SHOW, AND MORE AT THE HARRY AND JEANETTE WEINBERG INTER-GENERATIONAL CENTER IN SILVER SPRING

respite

On Saturday, October 15, Easter Seals Respite Services hosted a Halloween event at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Inter-Generational Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. The event celebrated families from many different walks of life, allowing children with disabilities or special needs, typically developing children, and children of wounded warriors the opportunity to grow, play and learn together. Nearly twenty children attended the event, and participated in a day full of activities including, face painting, arts and crafts, games with prizes, and a very special, magic show by Mr. D's Magic, and his bunny guest, Donatello.

Each child was paired with a volunteer to accompany them throughout the day, and the main attraction for the children was picking and decorating their very own pumpkin to take home. Volunteers included Easter Seals staff and employees from Transformation Systems, Inc., a long-time partner and sponsor of Easter Seals. Parents of the children who attend the monthly respite events appreciate the support and relief the monthly Respite program provides.

The event was not only an opportunity for parents to receive much-needed "time off," but was an opportunity for families to enjoy a little Halloween fun together, in the company of families who face similar challenges.  Easter Seals Respite Program provides a range of support and enriching experiences for children with and without disabilities, from wounded warrior, military, and civilian families.
