Easter Seals hosted its annual Advocacy Awards Preview Reception Tuesday, October 18, at the Citi Rooftop Terrace in Washington, DC. The event highlighted the 2017 Advocacy Awards sponsors, committees and award recipients, and introduced Easter Seals to business leaders and dignitaries. At the 2017 awards dinner, Easter Seals will honor Ellyn Dunford, Spouse of General Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., 19th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Dan Valenzuela, President of Safeway Eastern Division.

Pam Perry, whose twins attended Easter Seals Child Development Center in Silver Spring, spoke about the impact the Early Childhood Education program had on her children. One of her twins had developmental delays, but the inclusive classrooms, specialized curriculum, and dedicated group of teachers and therapists helped both of her children thrive.

We were honored to have Dawn Goldfein, Spouse of Gen. David L. Goldfein, 38th Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, speak at the reception. Mrs. Goldfien talked about her commitment to the mission of Easter Seals, and her willingness to support such a meaningful organization. Rick Stein, Vice President, Food Marketing Institute, will serve as the Dinner Chair, and Betty Welsh, Military Family Advocate, and Spouse of Gen. Mark A. Welsh III (Ret), 20th Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, will serve as the Honorary Chair.

Since 2004 leaders in business, government relations, and professional services have joined military and government dignitaries at the annual Advocacy Awards to support vital Easter Seals programs. The event, which will take place on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC, will also highlight Easter Seals services -- Early Childhood Education, Respite, Caregiver Training and Support, Adult Day Services, and the Veteran Staffing Network (VSN).  The 2016 Advocacy Awards Dinner raised over $800,000 to benefit Easter Seals services.
