Aquatic Therapy

Exercise in water can be used to strengthen weak muscles, relax tight muscles and improve body awareness, coordination and control of movement for daily tasks.  Using the physical properties of water, our physical and occupational therapists work to improve the body’s function.  Our comprehensive Aquatic Therapy program allows the choice of multiple locations and schedules.

Who Can Benefit?

Infants and toddlers can begin early to work on trunk and head control, functional movements and even advanced gross motor skills in a buoyancy-supported, natural community environment.  School-age children can use a new environment to increase maturation and keep strengthening muscles during growth spurts.  Adolescents work with the partial body weight, supported by water at varying depths, to transition functional independence into daily skills.  Post-Surgery Aquatic Therapy can also help weak limbs to move.

Why Begin Here?

Our highly experienced Aquatic Therapy team consists of physical therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapist assistants and therapy aides.  At Easter Seals DuPage & Fox Valley, we routinely host and attend continuing education courses in the study of Aquatic Therapy and make it our priority to blend newly learned techniques with our knowledge of effective strategies in and out of the pool.  We are focused on your child’s functional daily goals, and use aquatic treatment to help him or her to achieve them.
