Camp CommunicATe

Focused therapy programs are intended to allow children to address their therapeutic needs and goals amongst peers working on similar goals. In this program Speech-Language Pathologists, parents and adolescents use a peer setting to facilitate social communication. This program encourages natural social exchanges, and members can benefit from observing others using different forms of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). This focused therapy environment will inspire children and their caregivers to socially bond with other AAC users and parents, as well as express thoughts and ideas to their peers. Therapy is delivered by speech-language pathologists working with 2-4 adolescents who are matched by age and goals.

Who Should Participate?

Adolescents in middle school and high school (11+ years old) who are using an AAC method to communicate and are aiming to improve their social communication skills with peers. Camp CommunicATe will focus on general social communication skills such as asking/answering questions, greeting, sharing personal information, and describing hobbies/leisure activities. An initial evaluation will determine the appropriateness of your child’s participation in this program. If it is determined this program is not appropriate to meet your child’s needs, alternative recommendations will be provided.
