Silver Spring, MD — Easterseals DC MD VA has received a $100,000 grant from the Veterans United Foundation, as well as a $50,000 matching grant from Easterseals National Office, to maintain the Veteran Staffing Network employment app following its launch.

The innovative new app — MyCareerToolkit — will be a resource for potential job seekers, especially veterans, looking to overcome barriers in the job market and develop skills to obtain employment. In the past year alone, Easterseals DC MD VA served nearly 3,000 veterans and military clients with employment support, including coaching and placement. Veterans United Foundation and Easterseals are aligned in their shared goal to enhance the quality of life for people with military backgrounds.

“The Veteran Staffing Network is thankful for the continued support of the Veterans United Foundation to help more veterans and family members find meaningful employment. The MyCareerToolkit app is going to allow us to scale up service delivery and impact the lives of thousands of military job seekers,” says David Muir, Senior Vice President of Veteran Staffing Network at Easterseals DC MD VA.

The MyCareerToolkit app provides curriculum materials to help users prepare for and conduct job searches. Self-assessment exercises provide insight for applicants to better understand what careers they should pursue. There are also guidelines to writing cover letters, developing resumes, practicing for interviews, and sending follow-up communications.

Easterseals National Office is matching the Foundation’s grant with an additional $50,000 thanks to a generous gift from author and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. Ms. Scott’s contribution to Easterseals National Office and 22 Easterseals Affiliates is part of her 2019 commitment to the Giving Pledge, a philanthropic movement that encourages billionaires to publicly commit the majority of their wealth to charitable causes.

Veterans United Foundation is a shared mission by Veterans United Home Loans and its employees to enhance the lives of veterans and military families and support diverse needs in local communities and across the nation. The Foundation is funded by employee contributions matched dollar-for-dollar by the company. More than 90% of Veterans United employees donate at least 1% of their salary to fund the Foundation. The Foundation offers education scholarships and teams up with impactful national and local nonprofits. Easterseals DC MD VA is proud to be a Veterans United Foundation 2022 National Partner.

“On behalf of Veterans United Foundation and our more than 5,000 employees of Veterans United Home Loans, we are very pleased and excited to partner with Easterseals DC MD VA and to support their efforts to assist veterans. Easterseals’ Military and Veteran Services casts a wide net of support to our heroes and their families. We are thrilled to be in a position to help this program continue to thrive, and carry forward with the positive impact that it has had for countless service members over the years,” says Piper Brintnall, Outreach Foundation Coordinator at Veterans United Foundation.

The app is being developed by Develop for Good and is currently in beta-testing. MyCareerToolkit will be available for free download on Apple and Google Play in late 2022.
