Safeway Foundation Supports Veterans Services Through Easterseals DC MD VA

Silver Spring, MD — Easterseals DC MD VA was awarded a $55,000 grant from the Safeway Foundation at a check presentation on December 20, 2021, at the Safeway headquarters in Lanham, Maryland.

The grant is designated for the many Easterseals military and veteran services that help improve the lives of over 2,300 people with military backgrounds, their families, and caregivers. Programming includes behavioral health services at the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic, employment services at the Veteran Staffing Network, and respite services for Wounded Warrior families and military families who have children with disabilities.

“This grant from the Safeway Foundation will help active-duty service members, veterans, their spouses, and their children in so many ways,” said Easterseals DC MD VA President and CEO Jon Horowitch. “Our holistic programming includes mental healthcare, employment, childcare, and adult day services, and this grant is an indication that Safeway Foundation appreciates our comprehensive approach to care.”

“Our veterans’ sacrifices and service should never be forgotten,” said Jim Perkins, president, Safeway’s Mid-Atlantic division. “Safeway Foundation and our local Safeway stores thank our customers for generously supporting our veterans, particularly during the ongoing global pandemic. We are proud to help support their transition back into civilian life.”

The Veterans Campaign is just one of the many vital outreach campaigns that Safeway Foundation and Safeway stores undertake each year. In 2021 alone, the Safeway Foundation in Safeway’s Mid-Atlantic division has given back more than $3 million to communities in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware.
