iPads Give a Boost to Teachers, Expand Digital Literacy

Easterseals DC MD VA programs benefit from $25,000 Comcast NBCUniversal grant

Silver Spring, MD — Easterseals DC MD VA has purchased a total of 30 iPad Airs for teachers in its Child Development Centers and Head Start Programs, and participants in its Adult Day Services, thanks to a $25,000 grant from Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation’s Internet Essentials program.

The majority of the new iPads will go to early childhood education teachers for lesson planning, communicating with parents, and sharing pictures with families about their child’s day. Easterseals Child Development and Head Start programs serve children with and without disabilities, many of whom are from low-income households.

iPads designated for participants of Easterseals Adult Day Services will help improve digital literacy. Seniors and adults with disabilities will learn how to connect virtually to center activities and use apps on these devices. Adult Day Services works to intellectually engage and medically care for clients.

“We are so excited to put technology in the hands of our seniors and adults with disabilities, as it will continue to allow access and connection to services and activities when traditional in-person service delivery isn’t available,” said Elizabeth Barnes, Easterseals DC MD VA Vice President of Program Operations. “Additionally, we are thankful that Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation’s Internet Essentials program is providing additional access to the teachers who help children learn through play in our inclusive settings.”

The Internet Essentials program is an initiative by Comcast to bridge the digital divide. Comcast NBCUniversal is a prominent long-time partner of Easterseals and its many affiliates throughout the nation. Comcast recently supplied 225 laptops to military families and veterans enrolled in Easterseals DC MD VA programming at a giveaway event on January 13, 2022.
