Candid Conversations: Real, Perceived, and Unknown Barriers to Special Ed Services & Support

On February 18th, we were pleased to host a Candid Conversations with Partners in PROMISE to discuss obstacles – real, perceived, and unknown – to special education services and support for all families. Speakers shared practical, evidence-based advice for navigating around barriers, as well as recommendations and resources for support.

This conversation was joined by Mrs. Sharene Brown, Military Family Advocate and Military Spouse; Jon Horowitch, President and CEO of Easterseals DC MD VA; Jennifer Barnhill, Chief Operating Officer & Lead Researcher at Partners in PROMISE; Brooke Kaiser, Senior Director of Respite Services at Easterseals DC MD VA; Michelle Norman, Executive Director and Founder of Partners in PROMISE; Katherine Neas, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services at U.S. Department of Education; Amy Shuman, Ph.D., Research Partner, Storyteller, and Professor at The Ohio State University.
