Center-based respite services are temporarily on hold until we can resume safely. Until we reopen, we are proud to offer monthly Family Kits.

Easterseals offers center-based weekend respite for Wounded Warriors, veterans, active-duty military, first responders, and civilian families, and families with children with and without disabilities. Each weekend respite is planned to include a different monthly theme and ensure a variety of interactive activities. Children ages 6 months to 10 years receive one-on-one care from vetted volunteers, who are carefully selected to ensure a successful pairing between the child and volunteer.

The activities take place monthly at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Inter-Generational Center in Silver Spring, MD and can involve entertainers, petting zoos, adaptative sports, and other engaging hands-on activities.

This program is dependent on the number of volunteers that sign up. Therefore, space is limited. You may be placed on a wait list until we find the best volunteer to be matched with your child.

Monthly Family Kits:

To help support families during COVID-19, Easterseals provides monthly Family Kits that contain fun and entertaining activities for the whole family. Each kit is based on a different theme and allows families to be creative. Whether families are decorating cookies, painting mugs, making space themed pizzas, or unleashing their inner creativity with an arts & crafts box, it is sure to be fun for the whole family.

The goal of the kits is to help promote stress-free family togetherness for all ages to enjoy.

*Kits are limited by availability and location. Kits may contain perishable items. Pick-up service in set locations.

About the Robert Irvine Foundation:

The Robert Irvine Foundation is focused on giving back and supporting military personnel (active, retired, and veterans) and first responders through resiliency and health and wellness programs, in addition to financial support of top-rated and thoroughly vetted veterans service and first responder organizations.

Robert “Bob” Wilson believed that every person deserves a chance to live, learn, work, and play in the community, including children with disabilities, “Little Warriors” – children of Wounded Warriors – and those who care for them.

Through the generous support of the Robert Irvine Foundation, the Robert S. Wilson, Jr. Community Respite Program through Easterseals continues Bob’s legacy of leadership and volunteerism by providing critical support to these families.
