Behavioral Therapy for Children - Easterseals

Behavioral Therapy for Children at Easterseals DuPage & Fox Valley

Behavioral Therapy for Children at Easterseals DuPage & Fox Valley focuses on helping parents effectively deal with behavioral challenges by providing education, strategies, counseling, and support. Parents of young children often struggle with acting-out behaviors that can manifest at home, school, or in public. Many challenging behaviors can be indicative of underlying needs, such as anxiety, stress or sensory struggles.

“It is important to keep in mind that children do not just misbehave,” says Jessica Schultz, a pediatric behavioral therapist at Easterseals DuPage & Fox Valley. “There is always a reason for a behavior, and it is important to look at the overall child and his or her development.”

Why Begin Here?

Our goal is to help children excel—both at home and in school. Easterseals DuPage & Fox Valley Behavioral Therapy for Children utilizes a team of pediatric behavioral therapists and counselors who are certified to assess the underlying causes of behavioral issues for toddlers and children. Our specialists understand that, when a child’s behavior appears aggressive or non-compliant, it typically indicates a skill or skill set that is either delayed or missing.

Potential underlying causes for behavioral challenges can include ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), developmental delays, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and more. Behavioral therapy for toddlers and children at Easterseals may include:

  • Individual therapy sessions
  • Family therapy sessions
  • Parent education, training, and coaching
  • Consultation with other providers
  • Parent support groups
  • Community resources

At Easterseals, we believe children benefit from the knowledge of our entire team. Our therapists collaborate and consult with all professionals involved in the child's care, in order to achieve the optimal outcome from their individualized plan and provide carryover and consistency across all environments.

*For children on the Autism spectrum, experts agree that early childhood intervention leads to positive outcomes. New guidelines released by the American Pediatric Academy (APA) emphasize the importance of early screenings and diagnostic evaluations. Difficulties with behavior or acting out can sometimes be an indicator of evolving needs and a more comprehensive evaluation may be useful in identifying next steps. All of the diagnostic screenings recommended by the APA are provided by our Medical Diagnostic Clinic and Autism Diagnostic Clinic.
