Let's Hang Out

Focused therapy programs are intended to allow children to address their therapeutic needs and goals amongst peers working on similar goals. In this program, Speech-Language Pathologists will facilitate a welcoming and supportive environment for school-aged children to learn social rules and generalize their skills to apply the strategies. Four children, matched by age and goals, will be in a program to increase motivation to interact with others in a naturalistic setting. The interactive setting provides many benefits, including peer modeling in a socially supportive environment. Each week, the participants will be introduced to a social concept and have opportunities to practice the concept within various play ideas. Children will have opportunities to engage in self-reflection activities to increase their metacognition skills within the social setting.

Who Should Participate?

Children between the ages of 6 to 8 years old who demonstrate difficulty playing with peers, maintaining emotional regulation, using appropriate social language, and/or being flexible with play ideas.

The child must be able to separate from their caregiver to attend the program and perform at a conversational language level. An initial screening will determine the appropriateness of your child’s participation in this program. If it is determined this program is not appropriate to meet your child’s needs, alternative recommendations will be provided.

Program Objectives
