Community Center for the Deaf

The Community Center for the Deaf at Easterseals provides supportive services and serves as an advocate for Deaf rights enabling the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to have full access to opportunities for self-filling lives. The program is primarily funded by the Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities and serves individuals residing in Ashtabula, Trumbull, Mahoning, Columbiana, Jefferson, Belmont, Guernsey, Noble, Monroe and parts of Washington Counties.

The following services are offered at Easterseals:

Vocational Support: Easterseals provides job coaches to assist the Deaf and their employers to assimilate into new employment opportunities. The goal is to achieve a successful and long-term employment placement. For more Info
 
American Sign Language Classes: Easterseals offers American Sign Language classes for children and adults. Classes meet for 1.5 hours, once a week for twelve weeks. Participants will learn skills that will help them communicate with Deaf friends or family members. For more Info

Case Management: Easterseals provides independent living and communication support to Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deafblind individuals, as well as their families and communities. For More Info
 
Advocacy: Advocacy services are offered at Easterseals to support the rights of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals to have equal access to all community services and activities. Advocates are available upon request. For more Info

Deaf Kids Enrichment Club: The club supports youth between the ages of 5-21 who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard of Hearing, CODA or have Cochlear Implants.  The purpose of the club is to help them develop necessary life skills, improve self-confidence, and form a supportive network of friends like them. Deaf Mentor and Snapshots Programs: Our providers work with families and their infants and young children up to age three who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing to promote communication and language development. For More Info

Interpreting Services: Easterseals provides interpreting services for hospitals, doctors, police, employers, human service providers, etc. Emergency interpreting services are available 24 hours a day.
To request an interpreter between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., please call 330-726-8391.
To request an interpreter in an emergency situation between the hours of 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m., contact Help Network at 330-747-2696.
