Many people automatically think of beaches when they think of vacation. More and more beaches are becoming wheelchair accessible, thanks to specialized beach wheelchairs, beach mats and boardwalks that go right up to the water’s edge. Here are some I've found, and we'd like you to share others that you like in the comments section below too.

  1. Hanauma Bay in Honolulu, Hawaii loans out beach wheelchairs free of charge to visitors with mobility impairments.

  2. Kailua Beach Park, offers beach wheelchairs at its concession stands, 526 Kawailoa Road, Honolulu, Hawaii, and the city of Honolulu features a map on its website showing the type of wheelchair access available for all Oahu beaches, such as beach mats.

  3. Sterns Beach at Ludington State Park in Michigan
Ludington State Park in Ludington, Michigan, has beach wheelchairs available at the Hamlin Lake and the Lake Michigan beach houses as well as an accessible boardwalk. Plus, their south walkway is being expanded so that it extends past the beach area, where it currently goes, to the shoreline.

  4. Rehoboth Beach in Delaware has a boardwalk and beach wheels. More specifically, ramps to the beach are available at Maryland Avenue, Laurel Street and the boardwalk. Beach wheelchairs are available. To request a beach chair, call Beach Patrol Headquarters at 302-227-2280. All comfort stations are handicap accessible.

  5. Avalon and Stone Harbor beaches in New Jersey have accessible boardwalks and beach wheelchairs available by reservation.

  6. Silver Strand State Beach in Coronado, California, has beach wheelchairs and beach mats available for guests.

  7. In San Diego, California,  Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, Pacific Beach and La Jolla Shores, all offer accessible beaches with wheelchairs available for visitors.

Share with us other accessible beaches for all people with disbailities in the comment section below. Thanks!
