Overview

Easterseals SCSEP is a program that offers free job placement services for individuals 55 and older. Participants receive help developing a resume, practicing their interviewing skills and obtaining potential job leads to improve their chances of landing a job and increasing the pool of highly motivated and qualified mature workers. 

How does SCSEP help older adults find jobs?

  • Easterseals SCSEP staff create an Individual Employment Plan (IEP) for each participant based on his or her existing skills, employment barriers and training needs. The IEP helps participants realize their full potential by enabling them to adapt years of life experience into valuable workplace qualifications. 
  • Easterseals partners with community-based non-profit organizations and government agencies (host agencies), providing participants with training opportunities to update their skills.

Why focus on mature workers?
Mature workers bring strong work ethic, loyalty, and life experience to today’s workforce. However, many face challenges accessing job opportunities. SCSEP helps bridge that gap.

Where are SCSEP programs available? 
We have local SCSEP offices in the following states: Idaho, Alabama, Arizona, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Ohio, Oregon, and Utah.

How is the SCSEP program funded?
This project is funded by a $22.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration. This funding provides 90% of support for Easterseals SCSEP programs, with the remaining 10% covered by in-kind contributions worth $2.4 million. Easterseals is one of 18 national nonprofit organizations selected and operates SCSEP in 150 counties across 10 states.

What is a host agency in SCSEP?
A host agency is a local nonprofit or government organization where participants receive on-the-job training through community service assignments.

How long is training with a host agency?
Participants train through a subsidized Community Service Assignment for about 20 hours per week. These assignments are guided by each participant’s Individual Employment Plan (IEP) and provide hands-on experience to prepare for employment.

How are host agencies selected for participants?
Participants are matched with host agencies based on their employment goals and interests. Assignments are part-time and designed to build relevant skills and work experience.

Who pays participants during training?
While host agencies provide training and supervision, Easterseals pays participants’ wages and fringe benefits during their assignment.
