Miracle League of North Oakland Allows Teen to Play the Game She Loves

When Allison and her family found the Miracle League of Michigan in 2016, they automatically fell in love with the energy each game day presented.

“I like how happy everyone is at the field,” Allison said. “I really like watching baseball, but I love playing baseball even more.”

Prior to joining the Miracle League, Allison began playing baseball on the Independence Township Parks and Rec Team. Her coach at the time, Joe Auricchio, invited her to play at the Miracle League of Michigan, located in Southfield.

Miracle League of Michigan and Miracle League of North Oakland, programs of Easterseals MORC, allow children and adults with varying abilities to play the game of baseball safely, build confidence, simply have fun!

“Easterseals MORC’s dedication and commitment to the Miracle League has not only had a positive impact on our daughter, but countless other kids throughout Oakland County,” Allison’s mother, Erica, said.

Allison is an avid lover of sports, especially when it comes to Detroit sports teams. She explained that because she loves baseball, the Detroit Tigers would be her favorite Detroit sports team.

“One of my favorite memories at the Miracle League was playing in the Detroit Tigers Fantasy Camp,” Allison said. “It was so fun being able to meet some of the Tigers.”

Allison added that her other favorite memory while being involved in the Miracle League was the opening night of the Miracle League of North Oakland field.

The Miracle League of North Oakland opened in 2019 and is Easterseals MORC’s second Miracle League Field. When this field opened, Allison began playing at this location as it was closer to home.

“It’s great having the new field so close to home,” Allison said. “Having a second field gives more kids like me the opportunity to play baseball.”

Although she loves playing baseball, Allison has a dream to be an interior designer when she gets older. She said she has been able to get a lot of practice by using different applications she has on her phone.

“Two years ago, I was able to update my bedroom,” Allison said. “I had tons of fun being able to pick out new things for my room.”

Allison’s mother explained how grateful they are for the Miracle League giving the opportunity to kids throughout the area, including their daughter.

“Every year, we witness measured improvements in confidence and physical abilities by each player,” Erica said. “I hope this is just the start of things to come for the Miracle League.”
