Dr. Jeffrey Guina

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Jeffrey Guina, MD is the Chief Medical Officer at Easterseals Michigan after joining in 2019. Dr. Guina is board-certified in psychiatry by both the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the National Board of Physicians & Surgeons, in addiction medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine, in forensic psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and in community and public psychiatry by the American Association of Community Psychiatrists. He is also a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. After receiving his MD from Wayne State University and completing his psychiatry residency at Wright State University/Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, he completed two psychiatry fellowships from the University of Michigan and Wayne State University. In the past, he has worked for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and as an active duty psychiatrist in the US Air Force. He especially enjoys teaching and research. He has held faculty positions at Michigan State University, Oakland University, Uniformed Services University, University of Michigan, and Wright State University. His educational activities have led to multiple awards, including the Golden Apple Award at Wright State University, and the command-level Physician Educator of the Year in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Guina has authored over 40 scholarly manuscripts, including peer-reviewed research studies, review articles, and book chapters. He has won state and national awards for his original research on posttraumatic stress disorder. His interests include trauma, developmental disabilities, addiction, psychotherapy and medicolegal issues.
