Military & Veteran Services

The crisis facing the nation in meeting the physical and mental health needs of the Armed Forces having served in Iraq and Afghanistan is overwhelming and continues to grow. Thousands of injured military service members are returning home with hopes of successfully transitioning to civilian life. Many communities are not equipped to respond appropriately to their unique need, nor are they aware of how to best work with military and Veterans systems in the process.

Easterseals’ newly added Military & Veterans services respond to this call to action. As the largest provider of disability-related services to individuals with disabilities and their families, Easterseals offers military and Veterans systems of care with viable options to support and augment current reintegration efforts for veterans in communities across our nation.

Veterans Caregiver Training

  • Easterseals is working with the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) to provide a Program of Comprehensive Support to eligible veteran caregivers. Mandates by the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act of 2010 (P.L. 111-163), Easterseals and the VA are providing caregiver training via face to face classes throughout the country, a workbook/DVD approach and on demand web access. Eligible caregivers are certified by their local VA Caregiver Support Coordinators to receive this training. Those certified and completing the training will be eligible for Veteran Caregiver benefits.
  • Easterseals is pleased to present this program in conjunction with our partners Atlas Research, a veteran owned small business; Axiom Resource Management; and two of the country’s leading caregiving organizations, The National Alliance on Caregiving and the Family Caregiver Alliance -- and the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, who adapted the curriculum for Spanish speakers and is addressing the specific needs of Hispanic veterans and their caregivers.
  • To apply for the Caregiver Support Program, call 855-260-3274. For more information about this program, you can also visit the VA Caregiver Support Web site at www.Caregiver.va.gov
