Project Excel is modeled after Easter Seals New York's Project Discovery , the first integrated preschool program in New York State. Project Excel provides educational services for the Universal Pre-kindergarten students of Monticello and classified pre-school children in the area. This program, in partnership with the Monticello School District, offers integrated preschool classes with “push-in services” for children ages 2.9 years to 5 years of age.

Project Excel children

Project Excel's classrooms are bright, colorful, full of language development and language stimulation, nurturing, and open to endless possibilities for student exploration and “hands-on” learning. By providing students with ample opportunities to explore areas of their interest, the curriculum focuses on using the strengths of the students to build self-esteem and the important preschool skills of socialization, language development, academic readiness and motor development.

Project Excel teachers and therapists are well-trained, experienced educators. The educational philosophy of the classroom follows that of the Monticello Central School District and echos the early childhood policies of Easter Seals that include providing an educationally stimulating classroom environment enriched with language stimulation and positive behavior management strategies. At Project Excel, children receive developmentally appropriate pre-academic stimulation, opportunities to participate in hands-on learning experiences, activities such as art, music and movement that encourage children’s self expression, guided socialization activities, and exposure to high quality literature and language stimulation activities.

Easter Seals also offers an Evaluation Team for children referred by the districts, 80 Universal Pre Kindergarten slots and a focus on family participation in the treatment and education of their children.
