Jeremey's Amazing Journey

Jeremy

Jeremey’s journey with Easter Seals began in May of 2012 when he first arrived at one of our Behavioral Health Services group homes in Hunterdon County.

After battling an extensive past of drug addiction, multiple hospitalizations for mental illness and chemical dependence, and homelessness, when Jeremey first arrived he felt that one of his biggest challenges would be resisting his urges and triggers to use drugs. He was fearful of possible relapses and knew that the community would present challenges in maintaining his sobriety.

Over time, and with the help and support of the Easter Seals staff, Jeremey was able to develop the coping skills needed to overcome these challenges and has been able to maintain his sobriety. He has learned to manage his own medications and also developed insight into his mental illness which he utilizes to help him work through any increases in symptoms.

Now, Jeremey volunteers two days a week at the local ASPCA, enjoys writing, walking, and loves to exercise. He has even lost 25 pounds within the past year through changes made in his diet and exercise! These milestones have enabled him to graduate to another group home with less supervision – a huge step on the path to achieving independence!

Jeremey has really come a long way and we are very proud of his accomplishments. We look forward to his continued success and being a part of the good things life has in store for him!
