The University of Illinois at Chicago Family Support Research & Training Center announces a collaboration with Easter Seals to gather research topics of importance to family caregivers in the area of family support. Family caregivers, individuals with disabilities, service providers and researchers will have the opportunity to post comments and interact with other respondents using an online dialogue format, IdeaScale, available in English or Spanish or to submit comments via a paper survey. IdeaScale provides a virtual town hall forum where dialogue participants can read, react to, and vote for comments they support. In addition, Easter Seals and other community-based providers will supply survey forms for individuals and family caregivers who would like to participate without going online.

Participants can visit either the English dialogue website http://fsneedtoknow.ideascale.com or the Spanish dialogue website http://AFDiganos.ideascale.com between Monday, March 9th and Monday, March 30th to register, post comments, and respond to others’ ideas.

Part of the FS Need to Know national initiative, the purpose of the dialogue is to gather family support research questions and research topic ideas to better inform family support research in the United States. Insights gathered through this dialogue will inform family support research, policies, programs, and services.

Dialogue participants are asked to describe at least one topic that they think researchers should explore further including practical issues of providing support to family members who need assistance; physical care; education, transportation, and healthcare needs; as well as the emotional and spiritual aspects of caregiving.

Instructions on how to register will be available on the dialogue website along with additional information on the project. Those who wish to provide feedback by paper form can do so through Easter Seals affiliates and members of the Family Support Research & Training Center network. For questions related to the national dialogue, please call toll-free (844) 781-4158 or send an email to dialogue@easterseals.com.

About the Family Support Research & Training Center:

The Family Support Research and Training Center (FSRTC) is a collaboration of researchers and organizations who are focused on synthesizing and generating knowledge about the needs and experiences of families who provide support to children and adults with disabilities across the life course. Because family support is similar across different types of disability and across different age groups, we aim to bridge different resources and information across these groups to inform more cohesive policies and practices related to family support.

About Easter Seals:

For nearly 100 years, Easter Seals has provided life-changing solutions to the people of our country. From children and adults living with disabilities, to military families looking to serve their communities, Easter Seals is committed to creating a world of inclusion, dignity, empowerment and independence. We personalize solutions for individuals with autism, and intellectual and physical disabilities through innovative therapy, training, education, and support services.
