Easter Seals is pleased to announce it has taken first place in the Newman’s Own Foundation Honoring Those Who Serve Challenge. The nonprofit generated $135,599 in donations, and was recognized with an additional $75,000 grant from Newman’s Own Foundation.

Easter Seals is dedicated to providing exceptional services, education, outreach, and advocacy so that people living with autism and other disabilities can live, learn, work and play in our communities. Funds raised in the Challenge will be used to help veterans and their families, and to teach communities how to embrace their returning vets.

Easter Seals CEO, Jim Williams, says, “Thanks to each of you who contributed to the challenge and for your commitment to the men and women who have served our country and to their families.  This is really an awesome result.  Our team did an outstanding job and Dave motivated us all to reach further and to do more.  Congrats to everyone.”

The Honoring Those Who Serve Challenge was hosted on CrowdRise, a crowd fundraising platform for nonprofits. Organizations that serve United States military personnel, veterans, and their families were invited to participate by Newman’s Own Foundation, the independent foundation created by the late actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman.

In all, 28 participating charities raised $491,747 from more than 2,700 donations over six weeks, ending on Veterans Day. An additional $180,000 was awarded by Newman’s Own Foundation. The Challenge was part of a larger Newman’s Own Foundation effort Honoring Those Who Serve. The Foundation committed $7 million in grants over three years to support United States military men, women, and families.

Although the Honoring Those Who Serve Challenge is officially ended, donations can still be made to Easter Seals at: http://www.crowdrise.com/EasterSealsInc-NOF/fundraiser/eastersealsinc.
