Easter Seals honored the Meredith Corporation with the 2014 Leadership Award during its recent Advocacy Summit Awards Dinner held in Washington, D.C.  The awards recognize exceptional partners, corporations, organizations, foundations and visionaries making a difference in Easter Seals’ areas of key initiatives: brain health, veterans and healthy families.  The Meredith Corporation won the award in the Healthy Families category for their continued commitment to family wellness.

Meredith Brands have provided families with inspiration and information to create rich, meaningful lives for more than 100 years. Nowhere is Meredith Corporation’s commitment to healthy families more apparent than through its Parents magazine and Parents Network brand. The magazine and its digital assets provide valuable information and insights around issues important to parents and caregivers of young children including the health, development, safety, behavior, discipline and education of the children they love and for whom they care.

“Meredith Corporation and Easter Seals are a great fit—we’re able to combine our efforts to not only raise awareness about the importance of early information, but also spread knowledge about available resources,” said Carey Witmer, President, Meredith Parents Network. “This award holds special meaning because it recognizes our longstanding commitment to providing families with the best information possible so that they can live a meaningful life.”

Parents featured a cover story and a 22-page special titled "Life in a Special Needs World" in their April 2014 issue. The feature profiled parents raising children with autism and other disabilities. The issue promotes a positive attitude towards special needs by highlighting the abilities of children with disabilities as well as the confidence their families have in their future success.

“We know what’s possible for children and their families when they receive the support and services they need for healthy development,” Said James E. Williams, Jr., president and chief executive officer, Easter Seals. “Thanks to our partnership with the Meredith Corporation, we are able to increase visibility and awareness of our early intervention services to deliver solutions so that all children are able to reach their full potential.”

In addition to the cover story, Parents championed Easter Seals’ mission and mutual commitment to healthy families by including a two-page spread informing parents about free access to the Ages & Stages Questionnaires® through Easter Seals’ Make the First Five Count website.  Easter Seals is grateful for the valuable visibility Parents has provided Easter Seals over the past four years through our partnership, and thrilled to honor the Meredith Parents Network with the 2014 Leadership Award.
