Easter Seals honored the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation with the 2014 Leadership Award during its recent Advocacy Summit Awards Dinner held in Washington, D.C.  The awards recognize exceptional partners, corporations, organizations, foundations and visionaries making a difference in Easter Seals’ key focus areas: brain health, veterans and healthy families. The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation won the award in the Brain Health category for their commitment to funding life-changing research and awarding grants that lead to advances in scientific research to reduce suffering caused by mental illness.

As Easter Seals continues to advance its Brain Health Initiative, we’re exploring the fascinating emerging technologies, services and research associated with the brain -- opportunities and advancements that hold such promise for improving the lives of millions of people today and in the future. Committed to alleviating the suffering caused by mental illness, the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation is a leader in their field as the largest philanthropic organization dedicated to research across all brain and behavior disorders.

“The Brain Behavior & Research Foundation is pleased to receive this recognition from Easter Seals,” said Dr. Jeffrey Borenstein, President and Chief Executive Officer, Brain Behavior & Research Foundation. “As a foundation committed to brain health research we strive to make partnerships like Easter Seals that help further our mission. Easter Seals is an organization that can ensure proper patient care and application of our findings.”

The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation’s funding focuses on three priority areas: basic research, new technologies, and next generation therapies. By using one hundred percent of donor contributions to fund mental illness research, the foundation ultimately hopes to find cures for conditions such as depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, autism, bipolar, attention deficit, hyperactivity, post-traumatic stress and obsessive-compulsive disorders.

“Easter Seals is dedicated to helping people living with brain health-associated conditions live independently in their communities and improve or maintain their skills,” Said James E. Williams, Jr., president and chief executive officer, Easter Seals. “Thanks to organizations like the Brain Behavior & Research Foundation, we can ensure that better treatments and breakthroughs are being made through scientific discovery.”

With an estimated one in four Americans with mental illness it is critical to fund research in order to better understand and treat brain-health conditions. Easter Seals recognizes the impact that the Brain & Behavior Research foundation has made in the area of brain health and is proud to honor them with the 2014 Leadership Award.
