Easter Seals has received a $300,000 grant from the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust to advance clinically proven brain fitness training through Easter Seals programs for older adults and veterans in New Hampshire as well as for young adults with autism spectrum disorder in Missouri.  Outcomes for program participants are expected to include improved memory, attention, focus, brain speed, mood and confidence as well as social cognition.

Nearly one billion people live with neurological disorders and related conditions according to the World Health Organization.  Easter Seals has a nearly 100-year history of helping people improve their brain function when they need to learn new skills – or re-learn old ones – due to a developmental disability, injury, illness or the aging process.  Through a partnership with Posit Science, the leading provider of clinically proven brain fitness training exercises, Easter Seals is advancing the use of these tools to enhance brain function among a variety of populations, bringing research to practice at the community level through these programs in New Hampshire and Missouri.

“Imagine a world where people could protect, rehabilitate, improve or enhance brain function and better manage or address chronic conditions like dementia, traumatic brain injury, autism spectrum disorder, depression, addiction and many more,” said James E. Williams, Jr., president and chief executive officer, Easter Seals. “This is the vision behind Easter Seals Brain Health Center.  We are grateful to the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust for its support through which older adults, veterans and young adults on the autism spectrum have the opportunity to benefit from brain health tools which have proven successful in clinical trials.”

“Through our foundation we are committed to supporting  innovative programs which advance our purpose of helping people on their path to better health and help to improve health outcomes,” said Eileen Howard Boone, President, CVS Caremark Charitable Trust.  “The Easter Seals Brain Health Center promises to deliver 21st century solutions to people living with a variety of neurological disorders and related conditions which promise to help them achieve positive outcomes which lead to better health, wellness and quality of life.”

Since selecting Easter Seals as a national partner in its All Kids Can® program more than eight years ago, CVS Caremark, its private foundation and its associates nationwide have contributed nearly $16 million to support Easter Seals services which help put children and adults with autism and other disabilities on their path to better health.
