Easter Seals offers a variety of day program services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism. Services are provided in New Castle, Kent and Sussex Counties in Delaware and include facility-based day programs, community experience programs, and supported employment options. The same basic service array is available in each county depending on size and location of the program. Delaware's Division of Developmental Disabilities Services sponsors virtually all Adults with Developmental Disabilities Day Services participants. A few individuals receive services through private fee arrangements.
These programs offer educational, pre-vocational, social, community and volunteer activities with close supervision, and personal care services as needed. Computers with specializes adaptations are available for participant use and instruction at each location. Community outings are a standard part of each program. Easter Seals facilities offer a warm and inviting atmosphere with comfortable surroundings.
Community Experience is an ideal program for adults with intellectual disabilities who like variety and seek opportunities in the community. Options include trips to outdoor gardens, museums, sports events, shopping activities and more. Participants may engage in paid or volunteer work in community settings. This program promotes development of skills and interests as participants gain greater independence or progress towards employment.
Participants can choose individual or group employment. Group employment involves training and ongoing Easter Seals supervision while working in community job sites. Individual supported employment involves job coaching and training in competitive wage jobs with the expectation that the participant will learn to work without close supervision.
