From the beginning, Rotary International and Easterseals have been together. Paul Harris, founder of Rotary International, and Edgar Allen, founder of Easterseals, shared a friendship and passion for service and volunteerism to improve communities worldwide. Harris and Allen were men who believed that with success comes a responsibility to others. The dedication of Rotarians to service and impact shines through their support of Easterseals. We look to continue this legacy of partnership and service as our organizations celebrate 100 years together. There are many ways to give and to get involved. Rotarian Edgar Allen founded a hospital in Elyria, Ohio, after his son's death in a streetcar accident in May 1907. Soon after, Allen dedicated his life to creating community-based services for children with disabilities, recruiting Rotarians to create a network of programs that would become Easterseals. Since the 1920s, Rotary clubs have worked with local Easterseals organizations as volunteers and event sponsors, and by offering program support through direct grants and gifts.
As each of our organizations surpasses 100 years of impact we celebrate changing lives and improving communities all over the world. Locally, Rotarians have volunteered to beautify Easterseals program centers, have hosted and attended fundraising events, have advocated and help spread disability awareness, and have helped support critical equipment purchases such as an Eye Gaze Technology Lab in Montgomery County, PA.
Together we are working to help local families. Together we are providing services that make profound, positive differences in the lives of children with disabilities every day. Together we work for a future where every one is 100% included and 100% empowered.
