Kids Are Riding Safe (KARS)

Endorsed by the Academy of Pediatrics, Easterseals Kids Are Riding Safe (KARS) program is a community-based child passenger safety program that helps prevent disabilities and injuries by ensuring that infants and children are transported safely in approved car seats.  For a small donation, we offer standard car seats for income-eligible families in Sandusky County.  Families must complete an education program that focuses on the installation and use of car seats before receiving the car seat.

Special Kids Are Riding Safe (Special KARS)

Special KARS is available to help families with children who cannot be secured in a conventional car seat because of size, injury, or disabilities.  Car seats and restraints are available for children who weigh at least 3 lbs., who have leg or full-body casts, who need additional support for the head or trunk, or who have a high activity level and cannot stay in a conventional seat.

An Easterseals Certified Car Seat Technician provides the follow services:

Consultation

Information about the types, costs and vendors of child restraints including recommendations for individual children based on the child's age, size and need.

Loan Program

A limited number of special child restraints are available for children who weigh between 3 and 108 lbs.  The child restraints are lent to families for free up to 6 months.

Education

Education programs are available to parent groups and health and education professionals.  The programs provide information on how to position children in vehicles using both conventional and special needs car seats and restraints.
