Dmitriy’s Recovery Journey

Dimitriy

Dmitriy is a perfect example of what Easter Seals strives to achieve with its program participants.

After suffering a brain injury which caused a mental illness, Dmitriy was referred and admitted into an Easter Seals NJ residence in Somerset County for people struggling with the challenges of mental illness.

Upon his arrival, Dmitriy was isolated and extremely depressed. But since beginning his recovery journey at Easter Seals, he has grown to become a mature young adult.

He has begun attending classes at a community college to pursue a degree in Paralegal Studies and, outside of school, he participates in a physical fitness activities group to combat weight gain.

He is also working on learning skills such as meal preparation and housekeeping to help him live self-sufficiently and independently in the future. Additionally, he is also an active member of the US Chess Federation and Internet Chess Federation where he competes against others from around the world. And, with the support and guidance of Easter Seals, Dmitriy has worked to increase his socialization skills and now interacts more frequently within the community.

It has truly been a privilege to watch Dmitriy grow and we look forward to helping him continue working toward a life of full equality, dignity and independence in his community.
