Daniel Inspires Fellow Residents

Daniel

Daniel’s positive outlook on life brings a smile to the faces of his fellow residents as well as the staff at Easter Seals NJ’s group home for people facing the challenges of mental illness in Essex County.

Why? Because he inspires everyone around him with his determination, sense of gratitude, and belief that through hard work, anything is achievable.

Because of his illness, Daniel has been in and out of hospitals many times in his life. When he first arrived at Easter Seals a little over a year ago, his biggest obstacle to overcome was taking his medications and verbalizing his feelings instead of acting on his emotions.  He also had difficulty socializing, preferring instead to isolate, and was at risk for leaving the home without telling anyone.

He’s come a long way since then! With the care and support of the Easter Seals staff, Daniel is diligent in managing his medications, utilizes coping skills, and communicates his emotions to staff before acting on them. He is also an active participant in the weekly Health & Wellness Program meetings and able to fully socialize and interact with his peers.

He always offers assistance to his peers with chores or simply offering his ear to listen. We are all very proud of Daniel and how far he has come in such a short amount of time.  He always expresses his gratitude to Easter Seals for the assistance he’s received, but it is the staff and residents who wish to thank Daniel for touching our hearts!
