Youth Summer Day and Resident Camp

youth camp

Easterseals is the largest provider of recreation and camping services for people with disabilities. Our inclusive, recreation  camping programs are designed for youth ages 7 -16. Our partner YMCA Camp Widjiwagan, provides the facility, programming, food and housing. www.campwidji.org

Our campers are divided by age and gender and are part of tribes (groups) with their typically developing peers.  Each camper is assigned a specially trained Easterseals counselor based on their level of need. The counselor to camper ratio is typically 1 to 3, with a limited number of 1 to 1 spots available.

General activities include canoeing, archery, ropes activities, drama, nature activities, arts and crafts, sports, disc golf and much more. Campers swim each day. Easterseals campers are in tribes with Camp Widjiwagan campers and have the same camp experiences as their peers.

All Easterseals campers eat in the air conditioned Turner Dining Lodge. Menu includes a sandwich, salad bar and a hot entree each day. Special dietary concerns can generally be accommodated.

Campers can be dropped off at Camp Widjiwagan each day or may choose to ride an air-conditioned bus from two area locations. Easterseals staff supervise and entertain campers on the bus ride to and from camp. Campers may be dropped off at camp from 7:30am-8:30am and picked up from 4:30pm-5:30pm. Supervision by Easterseals staff begins at bus sites at 7:30 am and campers must be picked up no later than 5:30pm. Transportation from bus sites is provided by Camp Widjiwagan.

Overnight campers are dropped off at camp on Sunday afternoon at 4pm and picked up on Friday morning at 11am. Easterseals campers stay in cabins with their peers.

The lake and zero-entry pool are supervised by highly trained lifeguards. All campers are given a swim test on the first day of attendance, and those unable to pass are required to wear a life jacket when swimming in the pool. Life jackets are required for ALL campers going in or on the lake.

The Health Lodge is staffed 24 hours a day with a Registered Nurse.
