Mental Health First Aid

Teaching you how to provide mental health first aid.

What is Mental Health First Aid?

Mental Health First Aid is a community collaboration that teaches everyday people how to provide "mental health first aid" to help a person through a mental health challenge, mental health disorder, or mental health crisis. Both youth and adult versions are available. Like traditional medical first aid, mental health first aid is provided until formal help arrives or until the crisis is resolved. Mental Health First Aid is designed specifically for those without a behavioral health background, such as teachers, coaches, parents, grandparents, clergy, mentors, volunteers - anyone who regularly interacts with others. Mental health First Aid is a free eight-hour course that ideally includes 15 to 30 participants. The course is interactive, with activities, discussion, videos, and role playing to help participants better retain the information.

Several community partners from the Community Health Needs Assessment are part of Mental Health First Aid, including:

• Deaconess Cross Pointe
• Easterseals Rehabilitation Center
• St. Vincent Behavioral Health
• Diehl Consulting Group

We strive to make Mental Health First Aid as easily accessible as possible. The course can be brought to your location, or we can provide a location for you. We also provide two trainers and all materials, supplies, etc.

Each participant receives a manual, a certificate of completion, and a resource list to take with them. Youth mental health first aid is evidence-based, nationally recognized, and used all over the world.
