Prairie Meadows recently awarded Easterseals Iowa a Legacy Grant totaling $400,000. The grant will help fund the Built to Last capital campaign. A Community Betterment grant is providing an additional $5,000 for campships to Easterseals Iowa Camp Sunnyside.

Prairie Meadows is a nonprofit business dedicated to lessening the burden of government by promoting economic development, jobs, agriculture, and tourism in the state of Iowa.

Easterseals Iowa provides services and supports for people living with disabilities throughout the state of Iowa. Fifteen programs support children and adults to live independently in the community. The Built to Last campaign includes building innovative and welcoming spaces for team members and community members to collaborate and an emergency respite house for individuals and families in crisis. Our community currently lacks programs to support transition-age youth with disabilities. The Prairie Meadows Teen and Young Adult Center will provide additional programming space for these youth, and the support families need to know their loved one is safe during the day.

President/CEO of Easterseals Iowa Sherri Nielsen says, “Prairie Meadows has played a vital role in Easterseals’ ability to provide services to our community.   Their commitment to ensuring the nonprofit sector is strong is second to none.  We are grateful for their generosity.”

The $5,000 Community Betterment grant provides campships for client families who otherwise would not be able to pay for their loved one to attend Camp Sunnyside.  The camp experience not only provides unique recreational activities that increase confidence but also allows caretakers a much-needed break.

“We began our Legacy Grant program in 2003. Our Legacy Grants provide funding in the range of $100,000 to $1 million for large-scale, signature projects. We are very proud to have chosen this project as one of our 2019 grant recipients,” said Gary Palmer, President & CEO of Prairie Meadows.
