January 11, 2021, Easterseals Iowa received funding to expand our lending library, increasing access to assistive technology devices for individuals over 18 with disabilities, and for individuals over 60 living in community based settings and experiencing social isolation during COVID in all 99 counties of Iowa. Easterseals team members will work with individuals, family members, and professionals to help select a device that will best meet their needs, and address their specific challenges with social isolation. Funding is limited, time sensitive, and requires a simple application and eligibility process.

Easterseals Iowa manages a statewide lending library where members of the public can access low-tech and high-tech equipment to increase independence and reduce risk for social isolation. Access to assistive technology, especially high-tech devices, has been in higher demand since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Additionally, transitions from healthcare settings to home often require assistive technology while an individual recovers, or to support their independence in the home. There are currently not enough devices to lend based on demand.

The project is partially funded through the Administration on Community Living Grant 90NWC30017-01-00, in partnership with the Iowa Department on Aging Grant Opportunity for Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRC)/No Wrong Door (NWD) Systems Critical Relief Funds for COVID-19 Pandemic Response, Elderbridge Area Agency on Aging, University of Iowa Center for Disability and Development and i4a.

To request devices, or learn more contact Easterseals Iowa Assistive Technology Program at 1-866-866-8782 (toll-free), 515-289-4069 (TTY), or atinfo@eastersealsia.org.
