Comcast Grant Helps Seniors Secure Employment

With a generous grant from the Comcast NBCUniversal Assistive Technology Grant Fund, we have been given the ability to better serve our clients with vision disabilities. Comcast awarded us $15,000 to purchase assistive technology for our Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). This assistive technology will allow Easterseals to enhance our successful program for people with disabilities and special needs by providing assessment, training, and support to address their long-term technology needs.

SCSEP helps seniors escape low-income, isolated lives via income generation, societal inclusion, increased skill sets, wider social supports, better physical and mental health, and a greater ability to navigate our modern world. Currently, about 90% of our participants have low vision or other vision disabilities.

Computer skills are critical to our program; mastering skills like navigating computer files, email, and Microsoft Office programs are necessary to get and keep a job. With this grant, we will provide screen reader software, large print keyboards, and large screen monitors. This assistive technology will help participants build their digital literacy and ultimately land a job, benefitting them and their communities.

We are excited to be able to offer this new technology to improve the job readiness of those we serve. Check back in the coming months to hear about the progress of our SCSEP participants.
