Kimberlee, a Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) success story!

kimberlee

Kimberlee, an Army veteran, came to our Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) as a referral from Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (DVOP). She recently graduated with a Bachelor's in Computer Science and needed a job.

Kimberlee struggles with depression and anxiety. She was terrified of the interview process and had convinced herself no one would want to hire her; however, she was very eager to learn. Our goal was to get her comfortable with interviewing and get her clothes to interview in. We referred her to Dress for Success to acquire clothes and scheduled mock interviews with our staff. Kimberlee came in for mock interview dressed in her new interview clothing. She looked like a new person, held her head high, smiled broadly, and definitely was dressed for success.

With the right look in place, we then focused on helping Kimberlee hone her interview skills. She initially had trouble selling herself and explaining why an employer should hire her. But the mock interviews made her comfortable and able to talk herself up.

Kimberlee was very diligent in her job search and applying for any jobs suggested by her Employment Developer. After a short while, Kimberlee was offered and accepted a position with Capital Staffing. After working there for about a month, she was offered her dream job at the State of Oregon. It has been amazing watching her transformation. We are honored to be a small part of it.
