Hip hip hooray for Andrew on his Graduation Day

Andrew Royer Graduation

It's Graduation Day for Andrew and we at Easter Seals Louisiana couldn't be more proud of this young man and all his accomplishments.

Andrew is diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia, Aspergers, anxiety and depression. He has a history or psychosis and Paranoid Personality Disorder. Despite these barriers, Andrew will be graduating Friday May 22, 2015 from Baton Rouge Community College with an Associates Degree in Business Management.

"Andrew has overcome many obstacles, including his schizophrenia and Aspergers to be able to attend school," says Amanda Tisdale, Andrew's Easterseals Louisiana Suppport Coordinator.

Due to stress and family issues he dropped out during his 10th grade year. In 2003 he obtained his GED. At the age of 18, Andrew moved out of his mother’s house and lived in an apartment in Metairie. He held a part time job at Luther’s Steak House as a dishwasher. This all changed when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005.

"During Katrina his home and place of employment was damaged, as was his mother’s home," says Tisdale. "So they relocated together to Denham Springs. His mother purchased a home where they now live together."

Andrew started at BRCC in 2012 and worked at his own pace until he was able to graduate. Andrew loves his coffee. He likes to go to Starbucks as often as he can. He likes to make his own at home as well.  He and his mother love all animals. He has numerous dogs and cats. They take in strays and foster animals from the local animal shelter. Andrew is funny and very caring. He has a huge heart and hates to see anyone upset or arguing. He is kind and courteous to everyone he meets.

Join us in wishing this remarkable young man a happy graduation! Here's to your continued success Andrew!
