Veterans Services to Mitigate and Prevent Opioid and Other Prescription Drug Abuse

CVS Health Foundation is committed to mitigating and preventing opioid and other prescription drug abuse among veterans.  Through local collaborative efforts, Easterseals Joliet Region has been recognized by CVS Health Foundation, an Easterseals National Corporate Partner, with a grant to assist with both the Kankakee and Will County Veterans Treatment Courts to promote recovery, and mitigate and enhance the prevention of drug abuse inclusive of opioids and other prescription drugs.

Veterans Treatment Court is established in various judicial circuits.  When a veteran gets involved with the legal system, because of their military services, they may have special problems that a specialty court can help them with.  There is a structured protocol in place for court appearances and attendance of treatment.  This project is certified in the State of Illinois by the Administrative Offices of Illinois Courts.  Past participants have reported that their lives have been changed giving way to a productive future.

The prevalence of Opioid addiction has rapidly become a National crises.  Military veterans are a particularly vulnerable population.  Additional awareness, training and treatment is needed.
