Child Development

A Child Development Specialist assists a child in learning to gather, interpret and act on information from the world around them.

Specifically, the specialist addresses a child’s cognitive and social-emotional development in the following areas:

  • Attention and memory
  • Problem solving
  • Functional use of objects
  • Symbolic play
  • Visual perceptual skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Self regulation
  • Self concept

This intervention allows the child an opportunity to practice a variety of play skills using toys such as shape sorters, blocks, puzzles and books. Child Development Specialists are also a great resource for parents regarding typical childhood development and milestones, play and peer interactions, and strategies to address behavioral challenges.
